Eleven year-old Miss Khadijat
Okunsanwo of Olowora Primary School in Ikosi-Isheri Local Council Development
Area (LCDA) of Lagos State on Tuesday, 18th March, 2014, emerged winner of the
2014 edition of the Spelling Bee Competition in the primary schools category,
an event organized by the Lagos State Ministry of Education.
In the
keenly contested competition among 57 pupils representing the 20 local
governments and 37 local council development areas of the state, Miss Toyosi
Omoigbo of Ladoje Primary School in Orile-Agege LCDA; and Master Boluwatife
Olanusi of the Special Correctional School for Boys in Onigbongbo LCDA came
second and third respectively.
The
Wife of the State Governor, Mrs. Abimbola Fashola, who was represented by the
Wife of the Permanent Secretary, Parastatal Monitoring Office, Mrs. Ladun
Ogunbanwo, congratulated all the winners and presented the winners with a
trophy and a cash prize of N150,000 while the state Commissioner for Education,
Mrs. Olayinka Oladunjoye presented the first runner up with her prize of
N100,000 and a trophy.
The
second runner up was presented with his prize of N75,000 and a trophy by the
Chairman, Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Education, Science and
Technology, Hon. Wahab Alawiye-King.
The
competition continues on Wednesday, 19th March, 2014 with the secondary
schools’ category in which the next One-day Governor will emerge.
