The highly
inspiring lives of rare sports celebrities will be on the spotlight this week
on CNN African Voices sponsored by data grandmasters, Globacom.
Nigeria’s
Rafy Abrahamyan, a scuba diver, and South African horse rider, Shepard Zira,
will be resource persons on the 30-minute programme.
Cable News Network said
the two sports stars were among “Africa’s sport seekers who are
unafraid to take on challenges many of us would never dream of tackling. These
individuals dare to push the limits and pursue their passions - regardless of
the payoff.”
The TV station indicated in a
programme vignette released on the edition that it was
celebrating Shepard Zira because he is “one man who is overcoming hurdles in
the equestrian world and winning awards along the way”, while the
Nigerian Abrahamyan “has a love for adventure and a desire to discover the
uncharted waters of Lagos.”
Zira, a South African,
is the world’s first black professional Lipizzaner
rider. The Lipizzaners of South Africa, a group to which
he belongs is the only performing Lipizzaners outside Vienna
which is affiliated to the Spanish
Riding School. Zira, who is a star in his chosen art is only 22 years old but developed a
passion for horse riding at 11. It was an art which
he acquired from from his father.
Abrahamyan will elucidate
on the sport of diving as well as the circumstances which fanned his
passion for the sport which is alien to Nigerians. He also
speaks on the connected with the exploration of the waters of
Lagos.
African Voices goes on air at 10.30 a.m. on
Friday while repeat broadcasts come up at4.30 p.m. on Saturday;12.30
a.m. and 7.30 p.m. on Sunday;arinze11.30 p.m. on Mondays and at 5.30
a.m. on Tuesdays.
