Musical
sensation, Timaya, has been enlisted in the exclusive band of brand
ambassadors of total telecommunications solutions provider, Globacom.
In
a statement released by the company recently, the new ambassador, who is not
just a singer but is equally a songwriter and producer, was formally
signed last week.
According
to Globacom, Timaya was deemed worthy of the ambassadorial contract owing
to his outstanding impact in the Nigerian music industry coupled
with his being an inspiration to millions of Nigerian youths, especially
those of the South-South stock who regard him as their music idol.
Timaya
is an addition to the already impressive brand endorsement portfolio of the
company which has some of the finest artistes in the country. They list
includes comedians, Basketmouth and Bovi Ugboma; hip hop stars Reekado Banks,
Korede Bello and Hadizah Blell (Di'ja); as well as Nollywood stars including
Patience Ozokwor, popularly called Mama G, Omawumi, Ego, Yvonne Nelson, Nadia
Buhari, MI, Funke Akindele, Ime Bishop, Odunlade Adekola, Bimbo
Oloyede, Nadia Buari, Yvonne Nelson, and other mega stars.
The
resourceful musician, reputed for his admixture of genres including
raga, hip-hop, dancehall and afro beat, is an accomplished artiste with
several hit songs including True Story, Gift and Grace, De
Rebirth, LLNP and Upgrade.
Timaya
is the arrowhead of South-South hip hop group, Dem Mama Soldiers, whose
solo career commenced in 2005 with the release of "Dem Mama", a
track which also appeared on his debut album, True Story
the following year.
Born
Inetimi Alfred Odon, Timaya who is widely known as Egberi Papa 1
of Bayelsa is a multiple award winner who has clinched four Headies Awards and
one Nigerian Music Award, among others.
Timaya
was in 2011 appointed a Peace Ambassador by the Inter-religious and
International Federation for World Peace (IIFWP).
Co-Founder of IIFWP, Dr. Hak Ja Haan Moon, described
the artiste as "one of those individuals whose lives exemplify the
ideal of living for the sake of others, and who dedicate themselves to
practices which promote the founding ideals of the IIFWP.”
