iPhone
8 to Ditch Lightning Port and use Curved Display
If the
latest Apple leak by Wall Street Journal is anything to go by, then it will be
a sharp shift by the tech giant. According to the leak, we should be prepared
for a complete redesign of the iPhone.
If Apple remains on course as it has done in the past, then
get ready for S variants of the iPhone
7 and iPhone
Plus anytime from
September. But at the very end of the lineup, there will be an iPhone 8 to mark
Apple’s 10-th Anniversary in the iPhone world. This will not be like any other
celebration for Apple and so will it be for the iPhone, reports 9to5Mac.
Unconfirmed
leaks have already pointed out that Apple will integrate Samsung’s OLED panels
in the new iPhone 8 display. Samsung will be the supplier of this technology.
Tech enthusiasts have now drawn to the conclusion that the display will also be
curved and measure 5.8-inches but still fit in the 4.7-inch size of the iPhone,
just like LG
did with its G6. The implication of this is that there will be no
home button and bezel while the battery will be much larger.
Bigger Surprise
Are you surprised by the changes? Well, there is an even
much bigger surprise Apple has in store for us. Reports suggest that the
company has plans to kill the Lightning port and instead using USB-C.
Whereas we may be pleased by the move, it also means you
should be cautious about investing in accessories associated with the Lightning
connection. It also makes us ask whether the iPhone 7S and iPhone 7S Plus will
feature the USB-C.
The
iPhone 8 Price?
Just like any other high-end gadget, the new iPhone 8 will
be sold at a premium price. The revised iPhone 7S phones will not come at a
lower price compared to their predecessor. The same can be said for the
completely redesigned iPhone 8 which is rumored to start selling at $1000.
If this will be the starting price, then the smartphone must
indeed include something special such as wireless charging, glass case, curved
display and 3D selfies.
Augmented Reality
CNET reports that Apple has over 1000 engineers working to
develop AR for the new iPhone 8, which is expected to be launched early as this
fall.
If Apple makes this move, then it will have set itself
against the field’s giants such as h Google Tango enabled phones, like the
Lenovo Phab 2 Pro and Asus ZenFone AR. Creativity will vital here if Apple has
to super pass the predecessors.
Tim Cook has in the past made some interesting conversations
regarding augmented reality and thus this should not be a surprise.
Although this is yet to be confirmed officially, analyst
Steven Milunovich says that Apple has been vocal regarding the future of its
products and AR.
There was a time when rumors claimed that the firm had plans
to feature AR in the native camera iOS app. By doing so, the camera app would
have the ability to recognize objects or people, something close to the iOS 10
facial recognition capability.
