Glo wins coveted Most Outstanding Telco Award

Nigeria’s total telecommunications solutions provider, Globacom, has been adjudged  the Most Outstanding Telecommunications Company  of the Year 2017 at the prestigious Independent Awards instituted to celebrate outstanding brands and personalities, that have been extraordinary in the year under review.

While giving the raison d’être for the awards which held at the prestigious Eko Hotel and Suites , The Managing Editor and Editor-in-Chief of Independent Newspapers Limited, Mr. Ade Ogidan, disclosed that the organisation selected the brands and individuals who got the awards, with great precision and judgement .

In the organisers’ citation for Globacom, Independent Newspapers described the company as  holding the “record for changing the Nigerian telecoms industry” and providing employment to thousands in Nigeria, Ghana and the Republic of Benin. The judges also considered milestone achievements like  the  laying of undersea submarine cable known as Glo1 which Globacom singlehandedly built to connect Africa to Europe as well as its 4G LTE network . The judges also recognised that Globacom was the first to roll out a 4G LTE network in 33 locations across the country, which led to the company becoming the Grandmasters of Data.


Responding on behalf of Globacom, the Regional Director, Marketing Communications, Mr. Charles Jenarius, thanked the newspaper for recognising its contributions to the growth of telecoms in Nigeria. He explained that the company’s successes are hinged on its “resilience and commitment to innovations to make telecoms services more affordable and accessible for all Nigerians”.

The event which was well attended attracted the crème de la crème of business and government. Some of those who attended included captains of industry like  Chief Razaq Okoya, Chief Samuel Adedoyin, Chief Segun Okeowo,  Aremo Olusegun Osoba, a former Governor of Ogun State, Chief Sam Amuka-Pemu and Dr. Patrick Dele Cole.

Also at the event were the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu; Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State; former Governors Gbenga Daniel of Ogun State and Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State; Deputy Governor of Osun State, Chief (Mrs.) Titilayo Laoye-Tomori and former Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Ahmed Makarfi.
