Parents groan as they struggle to
educate their children and wards
Interestingly,
Nigerian private universities are perhaps the most expensive in this part of
the world. ENCOMIUM Weekly’s checks revealed that private school owners have
hiked their fees and with school fees ranging from N500,000 to N1.5 million,
parents will be paying more when schools resume soon.
Privy
sources in some of these private universities, however, revealed to ENCOMIUM
Weekly that some rich parents secretly ask the school to constantly hike their
fees to enhance their quality. Some even squealed that the move was spearheaded
by some of the parents who belong to the group that felt the increase would
match their status even if it means excluding the less privileged ones.
In the rank
of the most expensive private universities in Nigeria are ABTI America University in Yola, Adamawa State, Afe
Bablola University, Ekiti State and The Bells University, Ogun. These private
universities, ENCOMIUM Weekly gathered pay N1.59 million, N1.24 million and N1
million respectively.
Bowen
University, Iwo, Osun State is N750,000. Babcock University (Ogun), formerly
ASWA is owned by the Seventh Day Adventist Church. But, again its school fees,
which keep increasing, is beyond the masses. A parent said his ward would pay
about N620,000. That is only if he is in the Arts, Medical and Science students
usually spend close to a million per session.
Sir Gabriel
Igbinedion’s prestigious university also named after him is equally on the high
side. Here are their current school fees: Medical and Surgery, N642,350
Pharmacy, N634,350, Engineering, Accounting and Law Students pay the same
amount, while Art students pay over
N500,000 per session. It is N605,000 for Banking and Finance, Computer Science
and students of Nursing.
Pastor
Adeboye led Redeemer’s University picks N571,000 from student as school fees,
while parents pay N555,000 for their wards in Caleb University. At Lead
University, the story is same as parents cough out over N550,000 as school fees
and Benson Idahosa University pockets N5000,000 as school fees.
