EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Artistes / Label recording contract agreement is a “marriage” - Yemi Alade

Highly talented songbird Yemi Eberechi Alade never stops catching our undivided attention since she won the maiden edition of the Peak Talent Hunt back in 2010 and she has shown no sign of slowing down ever since. Born to a Yoruba father by an Igbo mother, you can call her that ‘Igbo-Yoruba Girl’, armed with a slew of singles from “Fimisile’’ with Eldee the Don to “Ghen Ghen Love’’, “Birthday Song” to mention a few. Freshly back from a nationwide tour, locking down an interview with the delectable singer seems to be an herculean task but we eventually caught up with  her and we journeyed through the mind of the sexy songbird as she talks about her music, what has kept her going and most importantly her forthcoming album. Excerpts:

How is it going down with Yemi Alade at the moment?
It’s been a wonderful year, have been working and at the same time learning since I began working with my new crew  Effizzy Music Group, trying to keep up with the energy of their working style, and on their part keeping their pace with me. We have been busy touring the nation, recording and working with different producers on my forthcoming album. I tell you, these guys are bulldozers and I am happy to be working with them.

OPINION: Prolonged ASUU Strike: Half-Baked Labour Force

Does being a graduate of a Nigerian university guarantee you a good job these days? The answer is no! In a country like ours where our youths are daily faced with the herculean task of successfully completing a bachelors’ degree under the severest of conditions, this is what we have come to expect.

Our graduates, when they finally complete their academic sojourn, enter the labour market with varied degrees; some with a BSc, and others a B.A and what have you...degrees that should make them proud. But, this sense of pride in themselves soon diminish when prospective employers disregard their degrees and tag them ‘unemployable’.

What else could possibly crush the dreams of a fresh graduate with more ferocity? Unemployable? After spending more than the requisite number of years only to come out of school and be thus labelled. It can be disheartening.

This issue of ‘half-baked’ graduates churned out by our tertiary institutions is highly demoralising on several counts. Education at the tertiary level is swarmed with a host of problems and challenges of which poor funding seems to have stolen the spotlight. However, other issues such as outdated curricular, poor staffing, and even management’s incompetence have been swept under the carpet.

Chris Brown Heads To Rehab

Chris Brown is reaching into Lindsay Lohan's playbook for avoiding jail: Go to rehab before your court date.
The singer's arrest Sunday on an assault charge put him on a path toward a possible prison sentence, but he will be in a rehabilitation facility as his next court date approaches.
“Chris Brown has elected to enter a rehab facility,” said a statement Tuesday night from his representative.
“His goal is to gain focus and insight into his past and recent behavior, enabling him to continue the pursuit of his life and his career from a healthier vantage point.”
There has been no indication that Brown, 24, has a substance abuse problem. The behavior that has landed him in legal trouble over the past several years has been anger management.
Brown's brutal attack on former girlfriend Rihanna on the eve of the Grammys in February 2009 resulted in a felony domestic violence conviction that carried a lengthy probation period.
A judge found him in violation of that probation in August because of discrepancies in proving he fulfilled the court-ordered 1,400 hours of community labor. He imposed another 1,000 hours of work.
