It was a delight seeing young people come together on the
same platform at the GHANA-NIGERIA YOUTH SUMMIT 2015 to discuss issues
affecting the two countries and proffer solutions. They came to consolidate
on their desire to have a formidable force that would ensure the development of
their countries. This interaction was made possible at the event that
held at the British Council, Accra-Ghana. The theme was 'Impacting the African
Continent, a time for Ghanaian and Nigeria youths to take the lead'.
Several speakers called on the Youths to put country first
as they work to develop ideas that would assist Government in its development
plan. National issues like corruption in Government, Violent involvement of
Youths in Election Violence, a time to stop etc were discussed and solutions
proffered.
Comrade Barry Ndu Nwaihim, the convener of the summit called
on Boko Haram to immediately end hostilities and reintegrate themselves into
the society as the Government is willing to assist them to be better people. He
told the delegates to think more of what they can do for country rather than
always waiting for Government to do everything for them. He said that some of
the Graduates who are out of school can go into Agriculture as it can be a way
for poverty alleviation.
He reiterated his desire to see a better Ghana-Nigeria
relationship hence the summit that’s now in its 3rd edition. He ended his
speech by calling on Government and other Organizations to support them in
their subsequent programmes even as he stated that they would be setting up the
GHANA-NIGERIA YOUTH SECRETARIAT that would ensure a continuous integration
between Ghana and Nigerian Youths.
The President of National Union Of Ghana Students (NUGS), Mr.
Prosper Dzitse asked politicians that have been elected to serve the people to
do everything possible to better the lives of those who voted them into power. He
called on the President of Ghana to remove Ministers that are not performing.
He applauded the organisers of the summit and pledged the support of the entire
Ghanaian students to anything that would unite youths of Africa.
The President of the Nigerian Community, Mr. Moses Owharo, Eze
Kennedy Obi, the King of Nigerians in Adenta Municipality all advised the
youths to remain steadfast while supporting Government to develop policies that
would benefit them. The Chief Imam of Tema, Mr. Ken of Webster Ghana pledged
their commitment to keep supporting ideas that would improve the lives of young
people.
In all it was a very
successful event as over 300 delegates attended from across the continent. The
Resolutions from the Summit would be sent to the President of Ghana and Nigeria
as their contribution that would aid in policies for National Development even
as the Organizers assured that the next edition would be more impactful.
