Tragic: 12 Year Old Girl Commits Suicide Following Mother’s Death

A 12 year old girl, Isabel Ann Richardson, whose mother died of breast cancer, has
committed suicide after posting self-harm pictures on Instagram, an inquest has
heard. The sad incident happened at her family home on Barrett Road, Norwich, UK on
the evening of May 12 th 2015.
The deceased, Isabel had been struggling with feelings of worthless and emptiness
since the demise of her mother, Karina, whose death occurred in 2010. But despite
taking counselling sessions with the school nurse at Hewett School, she was unable
to overcome her sadness and on May 12, discovered hanging in her bedroom by her
father, Stephen Richardson.
After her brother found depressing images of her on her Instagram account, her father
was called to check on her, only to find her hanging and she was rushed to the
hospital.
According to the Eastern Daily (UK), she died 6 days at Addenbrooke’s Hospital.
At an inquest heard, Isabel’s father, Mr. Richardson said his daughter told him she
had stopped hurting herself and he thought she was a lot happier since the
counselling sessions.
“I was aware of her self-harm, but I never thought for a second she would do anything
like take her own life. I will always think I could have done more,” he added.
Speaking on the incident, the Norfolk’s coroner, Jacqueline Lake said the cause of
death was brain injury, cardiac arrest and hanging.
