Ooni Of Ife Launches N50m Scholarship Scheme For Indigent Students In Southwest


Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi has launched annual N50 million scholarship scheme for Senior Secondary School III students across all government-owned secondary schools in the Southwest, just as he explained that he wanted to sponsor indigent students to achieve their lofty aims in life.
Speaking to newsmen in his Ile-Ife Palace in Osun state on the Ojaja Education Initiative, an initiative that he established to improve education system in the Southwest, Oba Ogunwusi noted that he was making available a sum of N50 million for 20 brilliant but indigent students across the six Southwest to ensure that sound education was made available to also the indigent students in order to ensure their God-given talent is not wasted.
The monarch said many brilliant but indigent students are left to their fate by the society that is supposed to cater for them, adding that he would continue to lend support to whatever initiative that can better their lots.

Earlier, the Ojaja Education Initiative programme Director, Olojede Ayobami told newsmen that Oba Adeyeye felt the urge to get engaged in providing access to quality education to less privileged and vulnerable children from lower socio-economic background.
According to him, the N50 million scholarship award which is pivotal to the Ojaja Education Initiative is aimed at not only assisting the less privileged citizens of the Southwest but to promote unity and good relationship among secondary school students and Southwest people in general.
To be eligible for the award according to the Director, participants must be in SS3 of any government-owned secondary schools in the Southwest, adding that the registration online that is free of fee shall commence in January, 2018.
The competition which is expected to be held in phases, will involve registration online in the six Southwest states, physical qualification where the best five competitors will emerge from each state and the final phase which will produce the 20 scholarship winners.

Ayobami disclosed that the competition that would be digital-based quiz, will focus on testing student’s intelligence, speed, power of focus and also involves test in Physics, Biology, Chemistry, English, Accounts, Economics, Government, Mathematics and Current Affairs.
