Glo supports SMEs at Jos Trade Fair



Telecommunications giant, Globacom, has thrown its weight behind the ongoing Jos Trade Fair in its bid to provide encouragement for small and medium scale industries in the state and Nigeria at large.

The fair equally provides opportunity for the company to engage in SIM Sales, registration and re-registration, product offerings, customer query resolutions at a dedicated Globacom pavilion where the company’s staff are available to attend to customers within Jos and its environs.

The trade fair with the theme, Sustaining the Promotion of Entrepreneurship through MSMEs  for Economic Development, was conceptualised by the Plateau State Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (PLACCIMA) as a platform for various participants from within the state and across the country to exhibit their products, meet potential buyers and increase the state’s economic growth.

… Commits To Impact 10,000 Youths In Life And Business Skills Workshop

In line with its commitment to youth empowerment, Nigerian Bottling Company Limited (NBC) has launched ‘Youth Empowered’, a training workshop program to support, empower and provide youths with basic life and business skills for their personal development and self-sustenance. The launch of Youth Empowered took place at the Federal Palace Hotel in Lagos on the 5th of October 2017, with stakeholders from government and non-governmental organizations in attendance.

Speaking at the Youth Empowered launch, NBC Managing Director, George Polymenakos said, “The youth remain a major focal stakeholder group in our community intervention programs and sustainability initiatives. Over the years, NBC has built and maintained strong community trust into our corporate strategy, which has driven our business to invest time, expertise and resources in locally relevant initiatives to facilitate socio-economic development of our communities, especially amongst the youth.

NBC Youth Empowered is designed to take participants through workshops in Lagos, Port-Harcourt and Kano, to help them discover themselves, understand their strengths and developmental opportunities, as well as provide them a platform for meaningful interaction with business leaders and mentors. Participants would also be taken through a 3-day business skill workshop designed to provide them with essential business skills such as project and time management, business planning, negotiation, financial literacy, communication and sales skills that would help them thrive in the business environment. The trainings would take place physically, with on-line versions available and is expected to reach a total of 10,000 youths.

Miss Malaika 2017 grand finale set for November 4th


Ten delegates out of the many who made if for the auditions have been outstanding in every way and come Saturday November 4th each of the ten would have to prove to the judges why they must be crowned queen for miss Malaika 2017.
The variety of activity lined up for the night is guaranteed to get patrons glued to their seats until the queen is finally announced. As each of the artistes on the bill take their turns to put up their best performances, the ten gorgeous delegates will also put their best foot forward that will be deserving for the crown, car, and cash.
The following artistes on the bill Kidi, King Promise, Adina and Ebony, are standing by to treat patrons to quality entertainment coupled with the sight of 10 of Ghana’s stunning ladies at the Grand Finale of Miss Malaika Ghana 2017. The event is scheduled for Saturday November 4th at the National Theatre in Accra.

KNUST Student Allegedly Commits Suicide


The entire KNUST student community was thrown into a sad mood when a student of the Geography and Rural Development Department of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) confirmed dead on Thursday, 28th September, 2017 at the University Hospital.
It was alleged that he committed suicide.
The male student (name withheld) believed to be in either level 300 or 400 was rushed to the University Hospital by students after being found unconscious in the washroom of the Central Classroom Block (CCB) with a bottle of insecticide liquid by him.

Only 30% UTME Candidates Will Be Admitted Into Universities This Year - NUC


Due to limited spaces in the universities, only 30 per cent out of the 1.7 million candidates who wrote the unified tertiary matriculation examination (UTME) will be admitted this year, National Universities Commission (NUC) Executive Secretary Prof. Abubakar Rasheed has said.
Prof. Rasheed spoke at a one-day public hearing on the regulatory conflict between JAMB and universities in offering admission in Nigeria.
The hearing was organised by Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFund on Tuesday.
The NUC boss said the limited spaces in Nigeria’s tertiary institutions have made admission crisis inevitable
According to Rasheed, the only way to avert admission crisis is to either expand access or create more universities to accommodate students.
“The crisis of admission in this country is inevitable. Unless we expand spaces, we shall continue to have admission crisis in this country.

1,272 Failed Nigerian Law School Exam, 29 Make First Class Grade…


The Nigerian Law School early on Saturday released the much awaited 2017 Bar Finals results. The release of the results had been delayed for at least a week due to unknown reasons.
A summary of the results provided by the Law School indicated that 4,284 candidates out of 5,891 candidates who sat for the August/September examinations passed while 334 recorded a conditional pass. Some 1,272 students however failed to pass the Bar exams.
In percentage terms, the results may generally be deemed impressive as there was a 72 percent pass rate with 5.7 percent of the candidates recording a conditional pass while 21.6 percent failed.
