The Federal
College of Education Okene, Kogi state on Friday matriculated 1,059 students
into Nigerian Certificate in Education (NCE) 2018/2019 academic session
of the institution after they were screened and certified qualified for
admission into the citadel of learning.
In his
speech after the administration of matriculation oath on the students at the
college auditorium, Provost of the college, Dr Umar Hassan, said the figure
consist of 356 males and 703 female students.
He added
that 414 students are in the school of arts and social sciences, 22 students in
the school of Adult , Non-Formal and Special Education, 100 in the School of
Early Childhood Care and Primary Education, 27 in the School of Languages,
while the school of science has 297 students and 199 students in the school of
vocational education.
Hassan, who
urged the new NCE students to remain law abiding , obedient and discipline
throughout their academic sojourn in the institution, noted that
the college has zero tolerance for all forms of social vices, such as cultism,
examination malpractices, indecent dressing , alcoholism, assault and fighting
among others that are inimical to their studies and future.
While urging
the students to be security conscious at all times, within and
outside the campus, the Provost charged them not to hesitate in reporting any
unusual movement to the college security operatives.
He also
assured the students of adequate welfare, but revealed that
“management would not condone damages to college properties”.
According to
him: “I must warn all the NCE 1 students that any student or group of students
caught in these acts would not only be shown the way out of the college , but
would be made to face the full wrath of the law to serve as a deterrent
to others.
“One major
thrust of this administration is the staff and students welfare. It is our
desire to sustain this practice. I strongly enjoin all the students to always
protect and guide jealously the facilities we have provided on campus to
enhance your welfare.
“I am also
charging the matriculating students to brace up with their studies. FCE Okene
is known for academic excellence and standard, therefore there is no room for
shortcuts. You should take your studies with all the seriousness the deserve.”
