Several Dignitaries, Diplomats,
Government officials, CEO's of Corporate Organizations, Entrepreneurs, youths
and students gathered at the prestigious British Council Event Auditorium for
the 6th Ghana-Nigeria YOUTH Summit on Thursday 25th April, 2019.
This year's event had
its theme as ''A Prosperous and United
West Africa: Need for a continuous positive Relationship between Ghana and
Nigeria''.
The Guest of Honor was
Mrs Akosua Frema Osei-Opare while H.E Olufemi Abikoye, the Nigerian High
Commissioner to Ghana delivered a scintillating key note address.
Declaring the event
open, Comrade Barry Ndu Nwaihim, convener
of the Ghana Nigeria Youth Summit (GNYS)
appreciated God for another opportunity for him and his team to host the
6th Edition of the most consistent youth summit in Africa. He reiterated his
organizations determination to keep doing things that positively projects the
image of Nigeria while creating a platform that unites citizens of the two
great countries. He said that the only way the West African sub continent can
take its rightful place in international affairs is when Ghana and Nigeria begin
to sincerely work together as one. He expressed sadness on the way some media
outfits tends to discredit the image of Nigeria when cases of bad behavior
involving Nigerians occur. He noted that the number of Nigerians in Ghana who
get involved in wrong acts is Infinitesimal compared
to the huge number that are focused, hardworking and committed to contributing
their quota to the economy of Ghana. He urged the Government of both countries
to initiate and implement strategies that would make ease of doing business
among the countries feasible.
H.E Olufemi Abikoye,
the Nigerian High Commissioner to Ghana showered appreciation to the organizing
team for such laudable initiative. He promised to do everything with the limit
of the Embassy to partner and support them in future. Mr. Shina Alege, a senior
Minister at the High Commission who read the speech urged Nigerians in Ghana to
remain law abiding. He also asked the media while making their reports to
attach crime to individuals who commit it than making it look as if it’s a
country thing. He enumerated several initiatives the High Commission has
embarked upon to ensure a more robust Ghana Nigeria relationship. The High
Commissioner expressed hope of a more fruitful trade relationship between
countries within ECOWAS.
Dr. Alawi Dauda
Executive Director of GELHUB asked young people to take their destiny in their
hands as they have the potential to make so much impact in the society.
He urged African
leaders to use the resources available within the continent to develop and
better the lives of citizens. He expressed hope in a bright future if lessons
learnt from the summit are taken seriously by Delegates.
Dr. Mrs Yetunde
Akinluyi, the Executive Secretary Lagos Economic Advisory team said that using
the template in Lagos state, other states and countries can actually become
prosperous if the resources available are managed efficiently. He urged young
people to get involved in entrepreneurship rather than always waiting for money
from Government or individuals. She stated that the success stories recorded in
Lagos state is because of a committed resolution by successive Government to do
more in impacting citizens.
Several individuals were honored for their commitment to
impacting humanity and being a blessing to young people. These included Mr
Spencer Olungwe, Dr. Mrs Yetunde Akinluyi, Hon. Chinedum Orji, Mr Bode Oseni,
Chief {Dr} Aare S. Smith, Dr. Nosiru Onibon, Alh. Comrade Segun Raheem and many
others. As it is a tradition with every edition of the event, a toast was made
for a continuous positive relationship between Ghana and Nigeria.
Ijeoma Chinelo Obasi,
the Deputy Director of Organization hoped for a successful 7th edition next
year and asked for more support from Government, individuals and corporate
organizations.
