LASU shut indefinitely over students’ protest

The Lagos State University authority has postponed the rain semester 2012/2013 examination and shut down the institution indefinitely, over protest by no fewer than 1,292 students of the university.
During the protest, the car of the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. John Obafunwa was stoned and he was reportedly rushed out of the faculty of sciences.
The students who took part in the protest, alleged that they were not allowed to register for the rain semester examination.
The decision to shut down the university was contained in an official bulletin posted on the school premises.
The bulletin read, “In the view of the violent protest by some affected students of LASU over the closure of the university portal for registration of courses for rain semester 2012/2013 examination, the university management has decided to shut down the university indefinitely.
“Also, examinations have been put off till further notice. With this decision, students of the university are expected to vacate the university premises until further notice.”
