1. Davido – Skelewu
Undeniable hit single!!! Skelewu took over every dance floor
where African music was played weeks after it was released. Despite the
controversy surrounding the videos shot by Davido for Skelewu, the fans still
crowned it the#1 song released in Nigeria in 2013.
2. Olamide – Durosoke
Olamide dominated 2013 with many hot songs, but Durosoke was
the most addictive single he dropped. After he released the Star branded video
in July 2013 it’s popularity soared.
3. Wizkid ft. Femi Kuti – Jaiye Jaiye
Wizkid released the first official single off his sophomore
album featuring music legend Femi Kuti and it took off. The single had a mature
tone to it but still contained catchy melodies and the perfect hook which
appealed to his core fans.
4. Kcee – Limpopo
Kcee, who has been in the music scene as a solo artist for a
little over 2 years, caught a massive break in 2013 with an overwhelming hit
song titled Limpopo. If you claimed to listen to Nigerian music in 2013, the
test question would be to ask you to sing and show us the Limpopo dance.
5. Starboy ft. Wizkid & LAX – CARO
Wizkid put his Starboy team together and released their
first single Caro which fired off faster than a Ferrari.
6. Kcee – PULLOVER ft. Wizkid
A party is not complete until Pullover is played at least
twice. KCEE followed up that national hit Limpopo with Pullover featuring
Wizkid.
7. Davido – Gobe
Davido dropped Gobe as his first single of 2013 and it
definitely dominated airwaves, dance floors and our minds anytime we thought
about music in the 1st half of 2013.
8. P-Square – Personally
The Kings of African music, P Square delivered Personally
and the hook has been on everyone’s lips ever since.
9. Sean Tizzle – Sho Lee
Definitely a surprise hit single from new comer Sean Tizzle
produced by extra talented producer D-Tunes. Sho Lee dominated the airwaves
once the visuals dropped.
10. Flavour – Ada Ada
Ada Ada was one of the tracks on Flavour N’abania’s third
album which dropped in 2012, but the song blew up in 2013 after he released it
as an official single and a video was released for it. Solid track that got
several African music listeners addicted to Flavour even more. Strong song that
drew most African music lovers to the Highlife master of our time, Flavour
N’abania
11. Maleek Berry – The Matter Ft Wizkid
The Matter, Maleek Berry’s breakthrough single featuring
Wizkid’s vocals was one of those tracks that got released online and was
embraced by the general public at large.
12. Phyno ft. Olamide – GhostMode
Phyno and Olamide, the top Indigenous rappers in the
Nigerian music space hopped on a song together in 2013. Everyone and their
siblings expected it to be a massive song and as you know today, Ghost Mode
definitely lived up to expectations.
13. Tiwa Savage – Eminado Ft. Don Jazzy
Eminado which was mis-interpreted to mean something dirty in
the Yoruba language when first heard by many, was one of the stand out songs
when Tiwa released her debut album, Once Upon a Time.
14. Burna Boy – Run My Race
Burna’s Run My Race sound was dominantly influenced by the
Afro Beat sound which Fela Kuti created. The video which was shot at the
African Shrine dropped and the song went on to do great things
15. Dr SID ft. Don Jazzy – SURULERE
Dr SID and Don Jazzy shut the last quarter of 2013 down with
Surulere; an addictive song from start to finish. Many who doubted SID or Don
Jazzy’s ability to make exceptionally good music again changed their mind after
Surulere was released.
16. Iyanya – Sexy Mama ft. Wizkid
17. Wande Coal – The Kick
While still committed to Mavin, Wande Coal dropped The Kick
which took off after the visuals dropped in 2013.
18. Wande Coal – Rotate
Another viral hit song that got Wande Coal on people’s lips
in 2013. Definitely a party starter that dragged folks to dance in 2013.
19. Banky W – Yes/No
R&B sells in Nigeria and Banky W heads this genre in
2013. Banky has found a way through his skills and brand to keep songs like
Yes/No catchy enough to make the list of 2013 Top 20 songs in Nigera.
20. SARZ ft Wizkid – Samba (Beat of Life)
Beat Of Life is exactly what it is ‘Beat of Life’. Everyone
that heard that song put it on repeat.
