Etisalat Wins Two Mobile Money Awards at the Kalahari Awards
As a reward for prowess in innovation, the fastest growing and most innovative telecommunications company in Nigeria, Etisalat was awarded two Kalahari Awards for “Best Mobile Money Innovation” and “Best Industry Collaboration in the Mobile Money Space in Nigeria” at the just concluded 4th Mobile Money Expo held at Oriental Hotel, Lagos.
Speaking on this recognition, Director, Business Segments at Etisalat Nigeria, Lucas Dada on behalf of Etisalat Nigeria, expressed gratitude to the Nigerian market and its subscribers; reiterating that it is as a result of the continued patronage of Nigerians that Etisalat has been able to grow into a major player with a growing subscriber base of over 17 million in just five years of operation.
“We are thankful to all our customers and to the organizers of the 4th Mobile Money Expo who have given us the opportunity to become not just a network but a brand to be reckoned with in the telecommunications industry. As a company, we are grateful for these awards but we will not rest on our laurels. We will continue to make sure that we push for more cutting-edge innovation and Quality of Service for all our customers.” He said.
The Kalahari Awards are given to organizations that have made significant contributions to the mobile financial sector and are poised to make considerable market impact in the future. The awards honour the best of the breed across all sectors and segments of mobile financial services covering mobile network operators, financial institutions, independent providers, systems and application providers, regulators, international development agencies, micro finance organizations and individuals in the mobile financial ecosystem in Africa and beyond.
The two day event featured papers and discussions on industry relevant issues. Speaking on Promoting Financial Inclusion through SME Retail Businesses in Nigeria, Dada revealed that ‘studies done by IFC show that 96 percent of businesses in Nigeria are SMEs while SMEDAN has identified 17 million SMEs in Nigeria that contribute significantly to the nation’s non-oil GDP. Therefore, Etisalat is investing in financial literacy, reducing barriers to market entry, providing market development, growing activity rates of small merchants and providing merchant payment solutions. The EasyWallet is one of our strategies of facilitating financial integration of the SMEs.’

Dada said the Etisalat Easywallet, a SIM application solution, provides access to mobile money operators, in line with the Central Bank of Nigeria’s cashless policy. Etisalat’s EasyWallet is the first to partner with prominent Nigerian banks and independent Mobile Money Operators including First Bank, GTBank, Stanbic IBTC Bank, Zenith Bank and Pagatech. It is a convenient and the most secure platform, which provides value added payment services for our customers such as Peer-to-Peer transfers, Bills Payment and Airtime top-up directly from a mobile device and helps our corporate clients (SMEs) to also enjoy benefits of cost reduction, inventory management, streamlining intermediaries, ensuring price transparency and competitiveness.
