Students of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife were next in line to experience their favourite artistes perform live on stage during the Coke Studio season two campus concerts.

The concert which held on Friday, October 10th saw a large turnout of music loving youths troop to the car park of the school’s Sports Complex to see music stars – Dammy Krane, Orezi and Reminisce. They also had the opportunity to cheer on their local school artistes who put up exciting performances and got a chance to perform alongside these stars.

The concert, according to Brand Manager, Colas, Coca-Cola Nigeria Limited, Olufemi Ashipa, is an extension of Coke Studio that delivers the music experience directly to the core demographics. “It’s about strengthening our relationship with these teens”, he noted. Speaking on the outcome of the concert at the Ile-Ife institution, Ashipa said, “The atmosphere at OAU was tremendous. The turnout was more than we anticipated. Even the change in weather did not deter them from watching all the artistes perform. This goes to show the level of connection we established with them”, he said.

The concert started with a competition to select the top three upcoming artistes from the institution to perform with the stars. At the end, Damilola Babatunde, Olamide Oladipo and Olusola Bakare emerged winners, and had their once in a lifetime opportunity to perform with Dammy Krane, Reminisce and Orezi respectively.

The concert shifted gear when Dammy Krane took to the stage to perform his popular tracks including “My Dear” and “Amin”. Orezi followed up closely with his line up of songs and a spontaneous competition for the famous dance step “shoki”. Rapper, Reminisce, brought the concert to a befitting end by performing his popular tracks including “Kako bi chicken” and “Daddy”.

A third year student of Local Government Studies, Charles Duduyemi, said he was happy at the inclusion of his institution on the tour. According to him, a show of this calibre and magnitude was rare for them to experience. Echoing similar sentiments, Ademowore Susan, a second year student of Psychology expressed her gratitude to Coca-Cola for bringing Coke Studio to infuse the much needed fun and excitement on campus.
