Miss World 2014, 22-year-old South African student wins beauty pageant




22-year-old South African medical student, Rolene Straus, is the new Miss World. She emerged winner of the annual pageant on Sunday.

Rolene Strauss, a 22-year-old South African medical student, has been crowned the winner of the 64th annual Miss World 2014 beauty pageant.

The new Miss World who is from Volksrust, Mpumalanga, was crowned on Sunday at the finale of the competition at the ExCel Center in London.

Rolene is presently a medical student at the University of the Free State in Bloemfontein.
She was crowned Miss South Africa 2014 in March 2014.

Coming second was Hungary's Edina Kulcsar came while American, Elizabeth Safrit was second runner up.

Over 120 countries were represented at the pageant which saw the death of the Hoduran representative, Maria Jose Alvarado, allegedly killed by her sister's boyfriend.

Rolene plans to honour Miss Alvarado by building and naming a school after her in Honduras.
