58-yr-old weeps, praises Glo as he collects N1m promo cheque

The first batch of 20 winners from the N120m Glo Overload promo rejoice after collecting their cheques  at Globacom head office in Lagos on Wednesday, with Globacom Sales Director, Kenneth Hall (4th left), Globacom Business Director, Lagos, Kunle Akanmu (centre), and Globacom Brand Specialist, Catherine Onotu (5th right).

Like the Biblical sick man who “jumped and leapt, praising God” after he received miraculous healing from Jesus Christ, a visibly excited 58-year old Rafiu Ajao on Wednesday, jumped, wept, prostrated and prayed effusively for Globacom’s continuous success when he was invited to the podium to receive a cheque for N1m he won in the Glo N120m Overload Promo that is currently going on.

The highly-elated Ajao could not hold his joy as he screamed, tears running down his cheeks: “Globacom has changed my life.  Glo is the king of telecommunications in Nigeria. I will spend the one million naira to bring my dream of building a house to reality.”

Before other winners, Globacom officials, Glo Ambassadors and the media, Rafiu Ajao, garbed in a white long-sleeve shirt atop a brown trouser, rolled his six feet frame on the floor, thanking the national telecoms operator for making more Nigerians millionaire.  He did not stop at this drama.  He went on further to smash the SIM card of another network provider, declaring that for him, “it is only Glo network from now on.”

Ajao is among the twenty lucky subscribers who won one million naira each in the ongoing N120m Glo Overload promotion in the first phase of the cheque presentation ceremony held at the Mike Adenuga Towers, Lagos on Wednesday.

Among the winners of this first batch of the promo are Mustapha Adebayo, Oluwatosin Alade, Kafayat Odusile, Abimbola Oderemi, Adeshina Adebisi, Bamidele Toyin, and Obembe Olasope.  Others are Opeyemi Orelaja, Olatunbosun Osungboye, Toyin Adeshina and Oyinlola Alaka.

Also present to collect their cheques were Aiyejimi Rukayat, Gbemisola Ero, Rashidat Sosanya and Prince Eguche Anthony.  Two of the winners could not be present to collect their cheques.

Globacom said that the remaining 100 winners will be presented with their cheques at events scheduled to hold at some major cities across the country within the next few weeks.

Egbuche Anthony, another winner, said “from today I am a Glo ambassador. I have asked all my family members, extended and nuclear, to join the Glo network and I am buying 25 SIM packs immediately to make this happen.”

In the opinion of another winner, Toyin Adesina, who used to be a cow dealer but fell on bad times, the one million naira is compensation from God for losses he suffered in the past, adding philosophically that “the downfall of a man is not the end of his life.”

For 31-year old Olatunbosun Osungboye the one million naira would boost his aluminium business and expedite his marriage plans while another winner Aiyejinmi Rukayat said the money was a pleasant New Year gift.

Presenting the cash prize of N1 million to each of the winners who emerged in the first phase of the promo, in the presence of other officials, Globacom’s Sales Director, Mr. Kenneth Hall said, “Globacom is all about sharing happiness, exciting and empowering our people,” adding that the presentation is part of the several ways the company has empowered its subscribers.

“Since it launched operations in August, 2003, Globacom has held several promotions with winners emerging from all corners of the country. Our promos have changed the lives of our lucky subscribers which include students, teachers, civil servants, drivers, artisans, members of the armed forces, traders and other categories of Nigerians as they have all benefited from these schemes by winning millions of naira in cash prizes, different brands of exotic cars, motorcycles, generators and airtime. This stems from our desire to positively affect the lives of our subscribers. We are not only committed to the provision of quality telephony services, we are equally enthusiastic about empowering Nigerians, wherever they may live,” said Mr. Hall.

He thanked Globacom subscribers for the support they have given the company and called on them to keep faith with the network and avail themselves of the opportunity to enjoy exciting rewards such as the N1 million cash prizes being handed out to the 20 subscribers.

“In this New Year, I wish to assure you all that Globacom will continue to reward loyalty and give back to the Nigerian society for the tremendous support it has given the company. We will also remain committed to our vision of providing innovative products and services to our customers,” he said.
He added that new and existing subscribers can also win by dialing *200# once to opt in and recharge their phones with N200 and above as often as they wished.
