Airtel Smart Icon, Patoranking, emerges Best New Act at MAMAs 2015



Reggae sensation and brand ambassador of leading telecommunications service provider, Airtel Nigeria, Patoranking, has emergedthe ‘Best New Act’ at the just concluded MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMAs) 2015
At the event, which was held last Saturdayin Durban, South Africa, the Nigerian dance hall singer beat four other nominees fromAngola, South Africa and Ghana, to clinch the much coveted award.
Patoranking was delighted to receive the award at the 2015 MTV Africa Music Awards night which featured electrifying performances, collaborations and award presentations. The MTV Africa Music Award was established in 2008 by MTV Networks Africa to celebrate the most popular contemporary music in Africa.
The young and vibrant reggae artisteis popularly known for some of his hits songs including ‘Alubarika,’ ‘Emergency,’ ‘Early Momo,’ ‘Girlie O,’ among others.
He wassigned alongside other popular entertainers such as music legend Tuface; popular On-Air-Personality, IK Osakioduwa, fast-rising comedian, Akpororo and rap artiste Phyno as one of the Smart Icons of Airtel Nigeria, last month.

According to the company’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Segun Ogunsanya, the Smart Icons were carefully selected as ambassadors because they embody the value, character and over all image inherent to the brand, therefore making them a perfect fit to further endearing Airtel to millions of Nigerians while strengthening its relationship with customers.  
It would be recalled that Patoranking whose real name is Patrick Okorie won the Next Rated and Best Reggae Single Award categories at the Headies Music Awards 2014 in Lagos. The giant telecoms operator, Airtel Nigeria, is one of the sponsors of the highly acclaimed Nigerian music industry award. 
Airtel Nigerians continually provided immense support and opportunities to boost the Nigerian entertainment industry and empower promising music talents to achieve their dream.
Some of the platforms through which Airtel has contributed to discover talents in Nigeria include the talent hunt show tagged Nigeria’s Got Talent, the Airtel One Mic which is targeted at undergraduate in Nigerian tertiary institutions and the Airtel Trace Music Star.
