It was a major award haul for the brand ambassadors of
Nigeria’s total telecommunications solutions provider, Globacom, at the 2015
MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA), held in Durban, South Africa on Saturday
night.
Leading the Glo ambassadors who shone like a million stars
at the awards was the singer, songwriter, and businessman, also known as the
‘koko master’, Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo (D’Banj), who won the maiden MAMA
Evolution Award. He beat other mega super stars, 2face and Asa, among others to
emerge winner.
The category was introduced in the 2015 edition of the
awards to celebrate artistes who have made huge impact on the African music
scene, taking African music beyond the African continent through hard work and
uncommon creativity.
The winner for the category was jointly decided by MTV Base
and online voting via Twitter and Instagram.
Two other major categories of the prestigious awards were
carted home by long time Globacom ambassadors, Psquare. They won the 'Best
Group’ award, beating South Africa’s house sensations, Beatenberg, Kenya’s power
musicians, Sauti Sol, and Angola’s B4.
They also won a non-voting category, ‘Artiste of the
decade’, in recognition of their successful longevity at the top of African music.
Burnaboy, (Damini Ogulu) another frontline Ambassador of the
foremost telecom company also bagged an award for his collaborative work “All
Eyes On Me” together with AKA, Da Les & JR: (SA/Nigeria).
Globacom’s new sign-ons, Korede Bello, Reekado Banks, and
Di’ja also shared in the glory when ‘Dorobucci’, a song in which they featured
prominently under the Mavin Record crew, was crowned the ‘Song of the Year.’
Other Globacom ambassadors who came close to snatching some
of the awards include OC Ukeje and Basketmouth nominated for the Personality
of the Year category, Ayodeji Balogun, nominated for the Best Male
Category and the Song of the Year Category; and Flavour (Chinedu Izuchukwu
