Students of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) have been reportedly banned from using headphones outside their hostels.
The ban comes about 10 days after a 200 level Philosophy student, Halim Rita Awele was killed in an accident that occurred on the multiple lane expressway directly in front of the school's Ugbowo campus gate.
In the announcement which was written on cardboard and reportedly posted on the notice board of the school's Tinubu Hall, students are banned from wearing headsets and earpieces outside of their rooms in order to keep them alert at all times.
"From now on, for your own safety, earpieces, head-set and earphones will be seized," the announcement read.
"Please, dont wear them outside your rooms."
Mixed reactions have trailed the announcement.
