Performances by
music legends, America’s Evelyn King and Nigeria’s Juju legend, Evangelist
Ebenezer Obey Fabiyi, capped a thrilling night at the 2015 edition of the Globacom-sponsored
Ovation Carol held last Sunday at Eko Hotels and Suites, Lagos.
The event began with touching delivery of several Christmas songs by the Ovation Choral Group which was followed in quick succession by performances by Glo ambassador, Omawumi Megbele, Gbenga Adenuga, F.A. from Liberia, StoneBwoy from Ghana and Atlanta, Georgia based opera maestro, Abiodun Koya. Next to come on stage was Evangelist Obey who brought the show to a perfect climax with the full complement of his band. He churned out evergreen tunes which earned him the nick name “Baba Miliki” to the admiration of the guests who obviously enjoyed his performance and kept asking for more. He subsequently obliged and entertained them until the early hours of the next day.
Globacom Chairman, Dr. Mike Adenuga, Jr., was commended at the event for supporting worthy philanthropic initiatives across the African continent. The Publisher of Ovation Magazine, Chief Dele Momodu, who organized the carol gave the commendation while presenting a one million naira cheque to the Proprietor of Abolarin College, Oke Ila Orangun, Oba Adedokun Abolarin.
Momodu
said that Dr Adenuga epitomised unequalled charity and love for the good of
others which had made him make inconspicuous impact on the lives of thousands
of Nigerians through his numerous business concerns and in his personal
capacity as a philanthropist. He stressed that the high point of the Ovation
carol was the assistance to the needy which rekindled hope for the hopeless.
Oba Abolarin who prides himself as the ambassador of the poor expressed appreciation to the organizers for the support and disclosed that he decided to start a full boarding school strictly for the poor in order to give helpless children opportunities to be educated. "It is a school where we strive to give the children of the poor and the helpless good education at zero cost to their parents," he added.
He enjoined Nigerians to always spare a thought for the poor in the society in order to make the environment safe for parents and their offspring, adding “if we failed to heed the clarion call our children may be consumed by the neglected poor.”
Guests at the event included the Minister of Transport, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi; Chairman of Forte Oil, Mr. Femi Otedola; Chairman of UBA Plc, Mr. Tony Elumelu, and Senator Tokunbo Afikuyomi.
