TWO PEOPLE HAVE been killed in a murder-suicide shooting at the
University of California.
The LA police chief confirmed that the shooting was a
murder-suicide.
Chief Charlie Beck said Wednesday there was no continuing threat
and the campus is safe.
The shooting occurred in a small office in an engineering
building. The chief says a gun was found along with what might be a suicide
note.
Both the victims are reported to be males. No
identifications have been released.
The sprawling campus was earlier placed on lockdown as police
searched university buildings following the shooting.
The UCLA newspaper The Daily Bruin had reported that the shooter
was wearing a black jacket and pants.
The campus was placed on lockdown just after 10am local time
(6pm Irish time).
People were asked to shelter after the shooting at an
engineering building on the campus.
The LA Times reported that the FBI and ATF both responded to the
incident – with the LAPD having been placed on tactical alert and sending
hundreds of officers to the campus and surrounding areas.
The shooting occurred the week before final exams at the
university, the flagship of the University of California system with about
43,000 students.
