… As Voting Starts for 2017 BET Awards
BET Africa, part of Viacom’s African multimedia
portfolio, today announced nominations for the 2017 BET
Awards which will broadcast across Africa on DStv channel
129 (BET), on Tuesday
27 June at 19:00WAT. The 2017 BET
Awards honours eight leading African artists who are currently blazing
up the music scene.
Nigeria enjoys a strong representation with Wizkid, who is no stranger
of the awards, red hot Tekno, the enterprising Mr.
Eazi and serial hit maker, Davido, while Stonebwoy (Ghana), AKA (South Africa), Nasty C (South Africa) and
Babes Wodumo (South Africa) roundup nominees list for “Best International Act: Africa”.
Commenting on the nominations, Monde Twala, Vice
President for BET, Youth & Music says,
“Africa has a rich cultural heritage and the BET Awards
reflect the power of our culture through music. This annual celebration puts
the spotlight on African artists and exposes their amazing talent to the
world. We wish the nominees well and congratulate them for the hard work
and effort over the last year.”
This year’s BET broadcast marks 17 years of unexpected
performances, trailblazing moments, super dope talent, and entertainment’s most
provocative players. The iconic show continues to be a cultural rule breaker
steeped in reinvention with some of the most memorable moments in Award show
history. The 2017 “BET
Awards” has set the standard for one of the most intently
unconventional, news-provoking broadcasts.
Beyoncé dominates this
year’s nominations with a total of seven including “Best Female R&B/Pop
Artist”, “Best Collaboration” with Kendrick Lamar for Freedom, “Video
of the Year” and “Album of the Year” for Lemonade. Bruno Mars follows with
five nods including “Album of the Year”. “Best Male R&B/Pop Artist”, and
“Video of the Year” for 24K
Magic. Solange, Chance the Rapper and Migos receive
four nominations each. Surprisingly, Solange
is up against sister Beyonce for “Best Female R&B/Pop Artist”.
BET Networks recognizes artists, entertainers, and athletes
across over 19 categories with the 2017 "BET Awards" nominations.
The nominations are selected by BET’s Voting Academy, which is comprised of
fans and an esteemed group of entertainment professionals in the fields of
television, film, music, social media, digital marketing, sports journalism,
public relations, and the creative arts.
