The Obi of Onitsha and
the grand host of the Ofala festival, Igwe Nnaemeka Alfred
Achebe, has lavished praises on telecoms firm and major sponsor of the
festival, Globacom, for helping to raise the standard of the African
fiesta in the last eight years.
According to Igwe Achebe, Globacom’s sponsorship has
added more flavour and excitement to the age old festival that showcases the
best of Igbo culture and hospitality. He described Globacom as a strategic partner and a friend of the Onitsha kingdom
and the Igbo race as a whole,
whose support has helped raise the profile of festival, putting the it on the
global platform as a tourists delight.
"I express gratitude to all who have
contributed to the success of yet another Ofala Onitsha festival. Sincere
thanks to our strategic partners, Globacom Nigeria Limited, who have been with
us for eight consecutive years", the Obi said.
The Igwe, who is marking
18 years on the throne of Onitsha, made his remarks last Saturday before the Governor of Anambra State, Chief
Willie Obiano, and other VIPs who graced the 2018 edition of the festival held
at the Ime Obi. He also used the occasion to broach issues of national importance, while also
thanking God for preservation and his people for their support over the years.
Globacom has sponsored
the Ofala festival for eight consecutive years, promising to make Ofala the biggest festival
ever in Black Africa. Glo was at this year’s event with many mouth-watering
prizes at the company’s pavilion within the Igwe’s palace, venue of the
festival. The festival ended with the Royal Banquet in honour of the Igwe
at the Dolly Hills Hotel, Onitsha, on Monday, October 8.
