The
World Bank announced $3 million grant to three government technical colleges in
Ekiti State. This is coming under the Bank’s Innovation and Development Effectiveness
for Acquisition of Skills (IDEAS) programme.
This announcement was made shortly after Gov. Kayode Fayemi met with World Bank officials &
representatives of the Federal Ministry of Education/Finance to discuss the
Bank’s Innovation and Development Effectiveness for Acquisition of Skills
(IDEAS) programme.
The planned five-year programme aligns with the
knowledge-based economy that is being pushed by Gov. Kayode Fayemi. The IDEAS
programme would focus on technical and vocational education skills and would be
private sector-driven.
The programme aims at skills acquisition for
youth employability and empowerment, would provide training and certification
for middle level manpower in Ekiti State.
It is also intended to make technical colleges
to return to their original purpose of establishment.
