One event that has
remained the most consistent intellectual Youth Summit in Africa is the
Ghana Nigeria Youth Summit (GNYS). Over the past years, organizers have tried
to bring together young people from these two great countries to discuss issues
that affect the African continent and seek solutions.
The 6th edition of
this prestigious Youth Summit has been slated to hold in Accra, Ghana on
Thursday 25th April, 2019 from 3pm. The venue is the world class British
Council Event Auditorium, Accra.
During a press
briefing by organizers, the convener of GNYS, Comrade Barry Ndu once again
called on all well meaning African citizens to do everything possible to be
part of this great event that seeks to continuously consolidate on the good
relationship between Ghana and Nigeria. He said that the theme for the event is
'A Prosperous and United West Africa: Need for a continuous positive
Relationship between Ghana and Nigeria'. Comrade Barry reiterated his organizations
belief that if Ghana and Nigeria can come together in doing things that
promotes unity and inter country business relationship, they would become a
reference point by the international community in no distant time. He wondered
why it is difficult to trade between the two countries. He expressed sadness on
the challenges that Nigerian traders faces once in a while doing business in
Ghana same way it seems difficult for some Ghanaian products to get approved
easily in Nigeria.
He called for more
collaboration and ease of doing business among these two great African
countries noting that their relationship dates to pre colonial independence. He
also urged Nigerians in Ghana to ensure they remain law abiding, focused and
determined to achieve the positive reasons that brought them to Ghana.
Sarah Atanda, the organization’s
Director of Logistics said that Ghana remains a peaceful country and has
constantly offered great opportunities for young people who are willing to
succeed. She noted that this year's event would be the best ever as every
necessary plan have been put in place to give guests a massive event. She
advised those who would be coming in from outside Ghana to notify the organization
for pick up at the airport or border as the case may be. She expressed joy and
excitement that the event has remained consistent despite lack of funding from government
and organizations that prefer sponsoring beauty shows than supporting
intellectual initiatives like this. The entire team used the opportunity to
request for support from well meaning individuals that would help the organization
put up a spectacular programme. They used the opportunity to also
commend Acada Magazine for their consistent free publicity over the years right
from the inception of the Summit in 2014.
