Meet Wendy, Nigeria’s NASA Whizz Who Is The ‘Most Promising Engineer in US Government’

One of Nigeria’s greatest strength — and perhaps weakness — is her ability to make global headlines for birthing some of the most ingenious people to have walked the planet.
Today, on this episode of Nigeria’s talent export is Wendy Okolo, one of the first black women to bag a doctorate — not honorary — degree in aerospace engineering, anywhere on the planet.
Born to a family of six in southeastern Nigeria, Okolo says her number one heroes are her sisters — Jennifer and Phyllis — who taught her biology, and other sciences with their day-to-day realities.
Okolo received her BSc and PhD degrees in aerospace engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington in 2010 and 2015 respectively.
During her undergraduate years, she was in the African Student Society at the University of Texas at Arlington. She was also the president of the society of women engineers in the university.
Okolo’s career has taken flight at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the U.S. agency responsible for the civilian space program, as well as aeronautics and aerospace research.

K 1 to Sponsor Kid Artist's Education

In what looks like a divine arrangement, Fuji Music Legend, King Wasiu Ayinde Mashal, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate has thrown his weight behind Oluwatobi Ilelolawa, the 12 year-old Primary Six pupil, who sketched President Muhammadu Buhari's portrait with pen (Biro) without alteration few days ago.

Less than an hour after   THISDAY Newspapers' Brands and Marketing Editor, Raheem Akingbolu published the story of the boy on his Facebook page, K1, through his publicist, Kunle Rasheed, reached out to the writer. K1, the father of modern Fuji Music said he was touched by the story of the boy and offered  to sponsor his post-primary education to the university level.

K1 described the boy as a raw talent that must  be guided, supported and not allowed to waste.
"I was touched when the story was brought to my notice and I see it as one of those things one can do to impact the society.  Education is key to success and who knows the boy we are talking about may be a governor or President in the making. He may become another Ben Enwonwu, Bruce Onobrakepya, Wole Soyinka or an international Artist of repute in the future. If the society fails to give him the needed support now, posterity will not forgive us. This is the time to lift a hand and groom a talent for posterity."

Meanwhile, arrangements are being made  to introduce the promising artist  to his new benefactor and perfect ways through which his mentorship and sponsorship would  be handled.

Three Trendsetting Athletes Feature on Glo-sponsored CNN African Voices

Kenyan entrepreneur who dropped her legal practice to bring the possibility of high tech fitness to Nairobi’s residents and two other outstanding athletes will, this week, be guests of African Voices, a Cable News Network (CNN) magazine programme sponsored by telecommunications giant, Globacom.
Globacom said in a press statement released in Lagos that it was proud of the achievements of the young Africans who have mentored thousands of youths in their chosen professions.
Saloni Kantaria's  inspiring story gingered her  country to embrace the culture of physical fitness as a way of stimulating the development of its human capital. She will be joined on the programme by Tshepo Nkhabu, a cyclist from Lesotho, and Mitu Monteiro, a surfer from Cape Verde.
Kantaria's amazing  story  is that of how one woman, through courage, strength and convictions, seeks to improve the health of families in her native Kenya. A former competitive tennis player and studio instructor, she quit her flourishing legal practice to found “Reform Cycling and Strength Studio”, the first indoor boutique cycling and fitness studio in Nairobi.
