I’m honoured to be back as Glo Ambassador – D’banj

The joy of Dapo Daniel Oyebanjo popularly called D’banj knew no bounds on Monday, 23rd December, 2013 when the national carrier, Globacom, unveiled him as a brand ambassador at the iconic Mike Adenuga Towers, Lagos. Magic fingers DJ Thorpe used the wheel of steel to supply popular tunes of the Koko Master and other top acts to serenade the jam packed hall while Jimmy de Hype dished out hilarious jokes and wisecracks to make the event memorable.

While unveiling D’banj, Globacom’s Head of Corporate Sales, Kamaldeen Shonibare conveyed Management’s pleasure to formally sign D’banj as brand ambassador adding that his return would further add value to the brand. Thereafter, D’banj was dramatically ushered into the hall by Jimmy to the delight of attendees. On hand to receive D’banj were fellow Glo Ambassadors like Chioma Akpotha, Ini Edo, Naeto C and Funke Akindele.

 Speaking in an interview, D’banj said he was humbled and honoured to be appointed as a  Glo Ambassador, adding that he was very happy to be back in the Glo family.“My second coming as Glo Ambassador is exciting. I was the first musician to be endorsed by Globacom in 2008. It is a marriage and I am happy to be back glowing and Gloing”.


He described his return as a delightful experience and promised to do everything within his means to add more value to the Globacom brand wherever he goes all over the world. D’banj announced that 2014 is a special year for him as he would be marking his tenth anniversary as a musician and hoped to embark on a world tour and get married during the year. He thanked the Globacom management for giving him a second chance and believing in him, adding that he would never let the company down.

Globacom also used the occasion to launch a Glo Nokia Asha smartphone specially designed for D’banj at the occasion. Announcing the offer at the media launch and unveiling of D’banj as brand ambassador  Globacom’s Head, Corporate Sales, Kamaldeen Shonibare explained that the Glo Nokia D’banj Asha smartphone was specially designed for youths in continuation of the company’s strategic engagement with youths.

He said the smartphone, offered at eleven thousand naira only, is specially autographed by D’banj and has fifty tracks of his popular tunes including fifteen songs that are yet to be released as well as pictures, all  pre loaded on the phone free of charge.

“Once a subscriber buys the D’banj Asha 210 phone, he gets a free data plan with WIFI functionality  by sending Yes to 66542. This would give the subscriber 12 months free internet with 260 MB on activation for the first month and 260MB monthly after recharging one thousand naira”, Kamal added.

Also speaking, Nokia Representative at the event, Mr. Olumide Balogun expressed happiness with the partnership and described the smartphone as efficient, cost effective and trendy.
