Acada Magazine supports the Emerging Designers in Nigeria 2.0 series



BlackNBold Fashion House presents the second edition of the Emerging Designers in Nigeria Series. This edition will focus on the Top 20 industry newcomers.

According to Abiola Orimolade, the CEO of BlackNBold Fashion House, he said "The Emerging Designers in Nigeria Series is aimed at promoting and encouraging entrepreneurship in the Nigeria fashion industry, the fashion industry is highly profitable and we believe strongly that this industry can be a major solution to unemployment in Nigeria if properly explored."

This year the Emerging Designers in Nigeria series will be focusing on 20 most outstanding new entrants into the Nigerian Fashion Industry. A way BlackNBold Fashion House and the supporting media companies believe will be an appropriate platform to encouraging fashion entrepreneurship in the country.

Interested Designers who feel they have all it takes to make the top 20 list should send in their entries with the following:

• 5 High resolution pictures of previous Designs/Sketches.
• Why Fashion Designing?
• Fashion Shows attended, print and online platforms where designs have
been featured.
• Major challenges faced so far and how they were tackled?
• Major achievements so far in the Nigerian Fashion Industry?
• What inspires your Designs?


A panel of judges will sit on all entries, while the top 20 most inspiring and outstanding entries will be featured on our supporting media platforms. The top 5 Designers will be interviewed on Surpris­e Fm UK and Naija 101.1 Fm UK.

Deadline to submit an entry is 20th July, 2014.

Etisalat Nigeria, leading contributor to the promotion of the nation’s cultural heritage, has announced its partnership with the 5th edition of the annual LagosPhoto Festival, themed “Staging Reality, Documenting Fiction”. This announcement was made at a press conference, recently held at the African Artist Foundation, Ikoyi, Lagos, to kick off the 2014 LagosPhoto Festival.

… As Team Elan Wins the first edition Fayrouz L’Original Expression Show

 The weekend could not have gotten any better as guests gathered in their numbers to attend the much anticipated Fayrouz L’Original expression show grand finale.
 The first of its’ kind fashion & lifestyle competiton which held yesterday, Saturday, July 5, 2014 at the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos witnessed a keenly contested competition which pitched the two finalists teams of designer, make-up artists, photographer & model: Team Elan and Team LoudTribe and their supporters against each other. Team Elan later emerged winners of the Fayrouz L’Original Expression Show after showcasing an original and cohesive collection that inspired the judges, Mai Atafo, April by Kunbi and Kinabuti. They walked home with the highly coveted prize of $20,000 while contending team, Team LoudTribe who also showcased an equally creative collection came second place and received the sum of $4,000.
 With 360 degrees cameras capturing guests in their glamorous ensembles at the beginning of the event, red carpet host, Toke Makinwa spoke to guests who looked original and stood out from the crowd.

Wole Soyinka Prize: Akin Bello wins grand prize

A former Chairman of the Oyo State chapter of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), Akin Bello has been named by the judges of the Wole Soyinka Prize for Literature in Africa as the winner of the fifth edition of the prestigious prize in Literature.

Bello was crowned by Professor Wole Soyinka, assisted by the board of the Lumina Foundation, the organisers of the prize, Governor of River State, Rotimi Amaechi and Globacom’s Head of GloWorld, Titi Ebinisi, at the grand finale of the award at the Civic Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos on Saturday.

The fifth edition of the award, sponsored by the National Carrier, Globacom, was keenly contested by three authors, Bello, Othuke Ominibohs and Toyin Abiodun, whose entries were considered the best three of the total of 163 works submitted from across Africa.

One of the judges of the Prize, Professor Olu Obafemi, a prolific playwright, novelist and poet, who has himself published 14 scholarly and 15 creative books, formally announced the winner, who was promptly presented the much coveted trophy and his cheque.
