N4.5m for Glo Literature Prize for Undergraduate Students
Leading telecommunications company, Globacom, has announced an annual literary competition for young Nigerian undergraduate writers at an event tagged ‘Evening with Prof. Wole Soyinka” in honour of the literary giant, held in Lagos, last friday.
The competition ‘Glo Literature Prize for Undergraduate Students’, which was unveiled by Gloworld Coordinator, Ebenezer Kolawole, who said that the maiden edition which will hold in 2016 will promote the study of literature on campuses across Nigeria, and that the contest might provide the platform for the discovery of another Prof. Wole Soyinka.
Kolawole, also added that the competition is aimed at promoting all genres of literature and literary creativity among students at the tertiary level. Literary works submitted will be classified into 3 categories; Prose, Poetry and Drama, he also revealed that winner in each category will receive N1.5m Prize each, making a total of N4.5m.
In Kolawole’s words “We believe that the Prize will provide added impetus to the education establishment in Nigeria. And that it’s open to all Nigerian students in the private and public tertiary institutions.
The literary competition panel of judges comprise of renowned scholars such as Professor Femi Osofisan, an author and professor of drama; Professor (Mrs.) Akachi Ezeigbo of the University of Lagos; Professor Umar Buratai, Dean, Faculty of the Arts, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria; Professor Olu Obafemi of the University of Ilorin and Dr. Promise Ogochukwu who is the secretary of the panel.
