Malaysia a new base for Nigerian Internet scams: US

KUALA LUMPUR — Hundreds of American women are being ensnared by Internet scammers based in Malaysia, with some losing over a quarter of a million dollars, as the country becomes an epicentre for online crime perpetrated by Africans, United States officials say.
The mostly Nigerian conmen, who enter Malaysia on student visas, take advantage of the country’s good Internet infrastructure to prey on lonely, middle-aged women, wooing them on dating websites before swindling their savings, they said.
The scams are more sophisticated than most Nigeria-based operations — which most Internet users have experienced at some time either via email or advertising — helped by Malaysia’s advanced banking system, which allows perpetrators to quickly set up accounts and receive international transfers.
US officials say Malaysian police lack the resources and expertise to tackle the problem and have yet to launch a single prosecution of a case involving a US victim.
Malaysian police were reported by local media last December as saying that the number of Internet scam cases more than doubled last year with total losses of more than US$11 million (S$13.8 million). A total of 476 Africans had been apprehended for suspected involvement, the report said.

5 Nigerian Students Arrested in Malaysia Over N125.2 Million Internet Scam

Five Nigerian students in Malaysia have been arrested and detained over their alleged involvement in N125.2 million Internet scam.
The five students are said to be aged between 20 and 30, and are reportedly working towards degrees in Information Technology-related fields at a premier college in Kuala Lumpur.
According to Vanguard, two local women, aged 40 and 55, who are the owners of the accounts used to perpetrate the fraud, have also been arrested.
The report also states:
Police seized five laptops, 20 smart phones, ATM cards, SIM cards and documents believed to have been used to con their victims.
He said police launched “Operation Merpati” after receiving a report from the owner of an ice block producing factory in George Town who claimed he had been cheated by the syndicate.
The 62-year-old victim said he received an e-mail from the syndicate in March, informing him that he was among 50 recipients selected to receive RM15.9 million from the government of the United States.
“The e-mail requested the victim to follow certain procedures to ensure he did not miss the opportunity.
Convinced by the contents of the e-mail, the victim carried out 51 transactions involving money, to accounts numbers given by the syndicate before realising it was a scam. He later lodged a police report,” he said.
Azmi said initial investigations revealed that the syndicate had conned several victims to the tune of RM2.4 million.
Police have also found transactions involving up to RM1 million that were banked in a neighbouring country.

CHOCOLAT ROYAL SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN IMMEDIATELY!

Remember the case between Chocolat Royal and NAFDAC? – Ermmm ok, a quick reminder for those of you who don’t? – it was in the news that Chocolate Royal was shut down by NAFDAC for selling dead products – yes you heard right!! – dead and expired means the same in my dictionary – I don’t know about yours!…
Meaning, those times you tripped your boo out to chocolat royal to prove your love for her – spoon-fed her and kissed her with a mouthful of cake – that cake was dead!!! – Don’t throw up yet boo – you are one of those who went with take-away? – Do you still have some in the refrigerator for a quick snack in-between meals? – You just had some a few minutes ago? – Jeez, now you can puke!!! – Yes dear, go-ahead and puke it all out because it appears that chocolat royal and NAFDAC lied to us all.
Etceteralive got a call from a staff of AIM GROUP, owners of Cool FM, Nigeria info, Wazobia FM and Chocolat Royal claiming that Nigerians are still being poisoned by chocolat royal in colaboration with NAFDAC. The caller also claimed that NAFDAC collected bribe from the choc boys in the region of 500 million naira and authorized them to reopen for business. – The staff who asked that his identity be kept anonymous (for obvious reasons) asked us to inform the public of the evil that is being perpetuated by the Lebanese owners of chocolat royal on unsuspecting Nigerians. According to him, AIM GROUP also sent a backdated letter to NAFDAC to make it look like they had previously requested the help of NAFDAC to rid their warehouse/storehouse of all expired products.
NAFDAC, how market? Since when una begin help people pack their dustbin? Una be LAWMA? Seriously, this is the first time i am hearing of an organization calling on NAFDAC to clear their expired products. I mean, who does that? Common sense says that when your products are expired, you throw them away to make room for fresh supplies. And wetin happen to all those aboki wey dey Victoria Island? Why could they use them? this whole issue stinks to heaven and back. It calls for a thorough investigation on NAFDAC and the management of Chocolat Royal.
