Dolce & Gabbana Debuts Its First-Ever Hijab Collection (PHOTOS)

How has it taken this long for a luxury brand to do this?
On penultimate Sunday, Dolce & Gabbana debuted its first collection of hijabs and abayas, news that was first revealed on Style.com/Arabia. The collection features 14 looks in a neutral black and beige color palette, accented with black and white lace and the fashion house's signature floral and lemon prints.

Dolce & Gabbana is one of a handful of major fashion brands looking to increase its presence in the Middle East, engaging Muslim consumers directly on a global scale. Last year, Uniqlo released a line of hijabs by a Muslim designer Hana Tajima, while H&M cast Muslim model and style blogger Mariah Idrissi in their "Close the Loop" campaign last fall.
While they're becoming more common, such inclusions and considerations are still extremely rare in the fashion industry. It's a real missed opportunity, considering that Muslims make up more than 23 percent of the world's population. Hopefully, Dolce & Gabbana's collection will inspire other brands to take similar steps in addressing the specific needs of their Muslim customers.
