Commendation for Adenuga as Ofala festival ends in Onitsha

The Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe, has lauded the magnanimity of the Chairman of Globacom, Dr. Mike Adenuga, Jr., whose company, Globacom, has sponsored the prestigious festival for six consecutive years. 
Igwe Achebe who made the remark at the post-event Royal  Banquet in his honour  prayed for sound  health and abiding  success for  Dr. Adenuga "for his love for the people of Onitsha as demonstrated in the last six years through his support for the Ofala Onitsha". 
In the same vein, the Ogene Onira of Onitsha kingdom and Chairman of the Ofala 2016 celebration, Chief  Ngozi Okafor, equally eulogised the large-heartedness of the Chairman of Globacom  who, he said, had positively impacted the  profile of the festival, boosting its  tourism potentials in the process. 

"I want to say it here that we are here for this royal banquet because of the magnanimity of the Chairman of Globacom, Otunba Mike Adenuga. His magnanimity has raised the standard of the festival. For the past six years, Otunba  Adenuga has hosted the Agbogidi to this type of royal banquet in addition to his support for the festival in so many ways. We are grateful to him for the honour and respect he has for our Obi", Chief Okafor said.


Globacom's Head of Operations, South-South, Mr. Enekwachi Aja, in his welcome speech at the banquet, emphasized the network's  commitment to raising the bar of iconic cultural activities in Nigeria  by supporting them.

He declared that the relationship established with the Onitsha palace in the last six years has generated for Globacom "immeasurable goodwill among the people and also helped make Globacom a household name not only in Onitsha but also in the entire South-East region of the country".

Globacom  later held an impressive musical concert as  part of the company's sponsorship package for the Ofala festival. The concert which was attended by a large number  of Onitsha youths took place at the Justice Ikpeazu Stadium, Onitsha, where the trio of 
Katapot exponent, Reekado Banks, Ikem Mazeli and the Igbo modern highlife star,  Flavour, seized the air while their performances lasted.

A beauty pageant was also a feature of the musical concert.  Odita Joy Ekene of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, emerged winner of the competition, taking home a cash prize of N100,000, while Etukokwu Ifeoma Vivian, a student of Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education, Owerri, who was the first runner-up received N75,000. In third place was  Iwenofu Precious Chizoba, a 200 level Accounting student of the National Open University, who won N50,000.
