Afro-pop superstar Skales released his widely anticipated
sophomore album titled ‘The Never Say Never Guy’ on the 29th of
May, 2017, and has shared a series of touching experiences he encountered
growing up on a number of tracks, particularly the album’s number 2 track
‘Mama’.
Skales raps on the inspirational song “I remember those nights
you cried ‘cuz (sic) you couldn’t pay my school fees, I know you tried” – a
heart-rending line that succinctly encapsulates his mother’s struggle over him
in his early years; before the money and superstardom.
‘The Never Say Never Guy’ album vividly narrates the singer’s
memoirs; right from his childhood to the man he has become, the man
internationally revered and accepted owing to his talent, steadfast positivity
and his mother’s prayers.
The Baseline Records signee openly dedicated the ‘Mama’ song to
his mother during the album’s listening party; which was held a week before its
official release.
The singer has described the album as his life’s story, told in
a practically successive order.
‘The Never Say Never Guy’ album features a handful of exciting
features which includes some of (Africa’s and America’s) most talented pop
icons and wordsmiths such as 50 Cent’s G-Unit signed singer-actor Rotimi,
Maroon 5’s PJ Morton, Sarkodie, Phyno, Wande Coal, Lil Kesh, Fifi Cooper,
Tekno, Timaya, among others.
