Cooperative
societies in Lagos under the aegis of the Lagos State Cooperative
Federation (LASCOFED) are to benefit from a special voice and data package
designed by leading telecommunications firm, Globacom.
Under the
partnership arrangement known as Lascofed Connect, a first
batch of 5000 public and private sector workers, including those
from the Small and Medium Scale Enterprise(SME) sector, will be
connected to the communication facilities.
Globacom
said that, with the special Closed User Group (CUG) scheme,
LASCOFED members will be able to communicate with one another and
with members of their families effortlessly and at zero cost free
of charge through voice calls, SMS, bundled data and bundled
voice minutes for calls outside the group. They will also be able to
enjoy the rich bouquet of value added services available on the
network, the company added.
Globacom’s
Acting Head of Public Sector Department, Mr. Mansur Opakunle,
who presented the package to the cooperative society in Lagos, said that
the scheme was designed to enhance the communication functions
of LASCOFED. The package, he explained, comes with free SIMs to
all identified LASCOFED members, free calls within the group, bundle calls to
other Glo and non-Glo lines and SMS, free upon the payment
of a low monthly service rental.
He added that
each beneficiary would receive an attractive amount of free
data bundle every month, and that the offer of free data in the package
makes it a unique kind of CUG. To make communication easy, a directory of all members' names
and numbers along with a dedicated call centre is included in the package.
Said
Opakunle, “The various advantages embedded in this package is so enormous
that members and families of the Cooperative will, for sure, soon realize that
Globacom truly is a very socially responsible organization with the interest of Nigerian
people and environment at heart. Indeed, in this venture, we have gone beyond
mercantile considerations to development support for the good of Nigerians and
the boosting of enterprise in the Nigerian economic space”.
Also
speaking at the launch of Lascofed Connect, the
President of the Federation, Mr. Oriyomi Areola described the project as
landmark.
“It is
the easiest and affordable means of communication for our members and
their friends, families and extended families.” Areola said.
He
explained that LASCOFED took into consideration the antecedents of Glo in
network provision before choosing it as its preferred network. “We also
considered that Glo is an indigenous firm with all it takes to compete with any
telecoms firm in the world,” he emphasized.
The
Director, Cooperative Services in the State Ministry of Commerce,
Industry and Cooperatives, Mrs. Zhulikha Ibrahim said communication was
very important in the life of an organisation and that Lascofed Connect will
help to ease communication at an affordable rate leveraging on the numerical
strength of its membership. “It will enhance efficiency, productivity and
improve on deliverables", she said, adding, “it has set LASCOFED
apart from other Federations”, she concluded.
