10-year-old Student Wins Scholarship

The 10-year-old pupil excelled in debate and quiz competition.
10-year-old David Anosike has been awarded a scholarship by Total Child Educational Foundation.

Anosike, a student of Local Authority Primary School, Surulere, Lagos State, emerged the overall winner in the quiz and debate competitions organised by the foundation.
He would enjoy the scholarship in any secondary school of his choice.
Odoene Ifeanyi from Enitan Primary School, Aguda came second, while Ezekiel Zunji from Canal Primary School, Aguda took the third position.

The winners received N50, 000, N30, 000 and N20, 000 respectively and some books.
Dr Bankole Sadipe, Vice Chairman of the Foundation told the press that previous winners of same competition are now in secondary schools in Lagos.

Sadipe said the best schools were given books to build up their respective libraries.

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.
“Total Child Educational Foundation was founded in 2010 to support schools in the area.
“Through the competition, we have discovered that the quality of education at the public primary schools is substandard.
“As a matter of fact, at the first quiz competition, all the pupils did not score a point in Mathematics,’’ he said.

Sadipe urged schools to organise debates and quiz competitions to improve the performance of their students as well as improve competitiveness.

“The standard in the public primary school is very low; that is why we organised this competition and opened a library for the students.
“After school hours, they will come there to study and gain more knowledge.
“We have provided many academic facilities to increase the performance of pupils and students within the area.
“They include: computers and after-school clubs because the competition can come up anytime, so they have to study hard.
“The children need to study hard not for today only but to become responsible leaders in the future.
“Achieving this also rests with their parents who take good care of them.
