This
year, Coca-Cola’s flagship African music show, Coke Studio Africa returns for
its fourth season with the American R&B artiste Trey Songz as the guest
star. Trey is undoubtedly one of the most accomplished R&B superstars of
our time – best known for his Na Na and Slow Motion hit songs. He has won both
a Grammy and Soul Train Music Award for Best R&B/Soul Male Artist, among
countless other accolades.
For
the finale episode of Coke Studio Africa 4, Trey Songz will record a song and
stage live music performances with Nyashinski (Kenya), Vanessa Mdee (Tanzania),
Rema Namakula (Uganda), Neyma (Mozambique), Serge Beynaud (DRC), Lij Michael
(Ethiopia), Patoranking (Nigeria) and Stonebwoy (Ghana).
From
South Africa, the show will include the rapper Mtee and the acclaimed South
African producer Maphorisa, who will be the genius entrusted with producing
these grand collaborations. Ahead of his anticipated arrival in Kenya and show
performance, Trey Songz said in an official statement: “I have always been
committed to spending time on the continent of Africa yearly. My fans show me
so much love when I'm there. I can't wait to visit Kenya and partner with the
Coca Cola Company on this initiative. I am fortunate to be working with some of
Africa’s biggest stars. I look forward to learning from them, and making a lot
of new friends as I discover what they have to offer.”
Last
year on Coke Studio Africa season 3, US artist NE-YO performed the song Reason
with selected African musicians including Wangechi (Kenya), Alikiba (Tanzania),
Maurice Kirya (Uganda), Ice Prince (Nigeria), and Dama Do Bling (Mozambique).
On the second season of Coke Studio Africa, Wyclef Jean performed his hit song
Divine Sorrow alongside Kenya’s King Kaka, Nigeria’s Chidinma and Tanzanian
singer Shaa. This year under the themeDiscover, expect to see some of
Africa’s biggest music collaborations and cultural fusions, as your favourite
Coke Studio Africa artists and producers take you behind the music to reveal
how the magic is woven into African melody.
Trey
Songz has six albums under his belt and has had more than six successful
international world tours. The production of most of his songs evoke emotion,
with subjects varied between lady love, club culture and the highs and lows of
love and relationships.
Coke Studio Africa
is a non-competitive show seeking to bring together, and showcase the diversity
of African musical talent. Season 4 includes artistes from Kenya, Uganda,
Tanzania, Nigeria, Mozambique, Ethiopia, Togo, Ghana, Cameroon and Ivory
Coast.
