Popularly
known as Rotimi, christened Olurotimi Akinosho is a Nigerian American multi-talented
singer, songwriter, actor and model. He’s popular for his role as Darius
Morrison on the Starz Networks’s Boss and currently stars as Dre on 50 Cents
Power.
Rotimi
was born in New Jersey, United States of America to Nigerian parents; a Banker
Yoruba father and a Civil Servant Igbo mother. He attended Columbia High School
where he became a prominent member of the school’s basketball team and choral
group.
At
the age of 17 Rotimi was asked by Jay-Z to sing for him. Jay Z told him
that with time he will be a wreck to mess with. Rotimi began spending studio
time with Jay-Z and spent most of free time learning the rudiments of the music
industry.
Having
promised his parents he would go to college. Although he knew he was close to
his big break, he decided to put music on hold temporarily and proceeded to
Northwestern University and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in
Communications and a minor in Business in 2010 before really pursuing his
career.
As
an actor, Rotimi clinched his debut acting role on ‘Boss’ as drug dealer Darius
Morrison. He also appeared on ABC’s ‘Betrayal’. Starred in ‘Black Nativity’ and
‘Imperial Dreams’. He also appeared on the high grossing film ‘Divergent’. He
was also added to the cast of Starz’ TV series ‘Power’ as a series regular,
where he played the role of Dre, the highly agitated and quick tempered young
protégé of “50 Cent” Curtis’s character. He also got a role on ‘Battle Creek’
as Danny. He’s on yet to be released films, ‘Deuces’ and ‘Burning Sands’ where
he played Face and Edwin respectively.
As
a recording artist, Rotimi thrives in the contemporary R&B genre, and
between modeling and acting, he has recorded several songs and released two
digital mix-tapes in 2011, titled “The Resume” and “While You Wait”. His videos
have also been featured on U.S. based and international media outfit such as
MTV, MTV Base and VH1 Soul.
He
has equally graced several stages, opening for Jennifer Hudson, T.I., Estelle
and NERD. He equally performed on BET’s show ‘106 and Park’ and appeared as a
cameo in Keyshia Cole’s music video “Trust and Believe” as Cole’s unfaithful
boyfriend.
Having
garnered music placement with “I’m the One” on the first episode of “Boss”, in
2015, Rotimi was signed by American rapper and executive producer of Power, ‘50
Cent’ to his label G-Unit. He has released his official-Unit single “Lotto”
featuring 50 Cent.
In 2016, Rotimi released “Doing
It”, a single from his 5-track EP rotation, which promises to be the bomb when
it’s released.Rotimi who is the founder and CEO of FrontRoSeat Productions is also a model and was the lead model/spoke person for the Grammy Award winning rapper T.I.’s AKOO Clothing in its 2012 summer campaign.
