A new date has been fixed for the maiden edition of Cross
River State Secondary Schools Cultural Festival & Poetry. 5 Commissioners
for Culture and Tourism are also expected from Akwa Ibom, Abia, Enugu, Rivers
and Imo States to grace the occasion. This was made known by the Commissioner
of Culture and Tourism Development, Mr. Eric Anderson, rising from a joint
meeting with Directors of his ministry and their counterparts from the Ministry
of Education. The Ministry of Culture and Tourism Development, Cross River
State had announced their collaboration with the Ministry of Education, to host
the first ever All Secondary Schools Cultural Festival on Wednesday, 28th March
2018 at the UJ ESUENE Stadium, Calabar. The new date for the event is
Wednesday, 11th of April 2018 at the same venue. The festival, tagged AYADE
MAIDEN EDITION, is initiated following the need to ensure that adequate
knowledge of our culture and heritage is transferred to the younger generation.
There will be display of food, music and dance of Cross River origin by
students of 60 secondary schools drawn from the North, Central and Southern
parts of the state, in a friendly creative contest designed to entertain and
educate both the students and the guests. The festival will also feature poetry
presentations by the students on the topic 'Governor Ben Ayade the Hero of our
time’. The tourism boss announced that a trophy, scholarships and cash consolation
prizes will be given as reward to students/schools for outstanding performances
and presentations.
