Skye Bank Plc has many
reasons to roll out the drums in celebration this year. It took a giant step towards frontline
leadership in the nation’s financial services industry through the in-organic
route of the acquisition of Mainstreet Bank Plc, thrusting it to the fourth
position in terms of size. The
acquisition enlarges its branch network to 469 nationwide, while its balance
sheet is in excess of N1 trillion.
This bold and daring
growth strategy automatically translates into enhanced capacity, increased
capital, strong fundamentals and enlarged size, all of which have combined to
make the bank better able to serve and meet the needs of its customers. The
expanded branch network has made access to its banking services closer to the
customers, just as it leverages information technology to bring efficiency and
convenience as components of its service offerings.
In the midst of the change
taking place in the bank, it also made enormous investments in its human
capital and information technology. First, it upgraded its banking software
from Oracle Flexcube 6.0 to the latest version, Oracle Flexcube 12, which has
multiple capabilities and self service features. The workforces received the
best training and are still being trained on relevant job skills to make them
effective.
To tell its customers and
the general banking public these positive changes, the bank is now beaming the
light on what it has done, is doing, as well as bringing its efficient services
closer to the customers, helping business and individuals through financial
solutions package, showcasing its well trained, dedicated and committed staff,
among others.
At the launch of the
bank’s new television commercial and radio jingles campaign tagged ‘The Skye is
big enough’ in Lagos last week, Skye Bank’s Executive Director, Corporate
Services, Mrs. Abimbola Izu, said the Skye is big enough for anything that
individuals and customers have passion for and anything the customers dream
about to do.
“We are not saying we are
big enough in terms of size, but we are big enough in terms of skills,
technology, sound corporate governance structure, system, policy, risk
management principles in place, knowledgeable and dynamic management that we
have.
“Whatever it is that you
want to do, we are big enough to help you do it. Our staffs are committed,
loyal, dedicated and ready to help you. We have smart ideas, smart technology,
smart people to help you’, she said.
To depict this reality,
the television commercial and radio jingles feature three young Nigerians who
rose from grass to grace through determination, focus and hard work. The
individuals are a popular hip hop musician, Ice Prince Zamani; Managing
Director of Marine Platforms, a leading maritime company, Mr. Taofik Adegbite
and a blogger, Ladun Liadi.
Ice Prince was a bar
attendant before his break through while Adegbite was a security man in the
United Kingdom as an undergraduate. Ladun, on the other hand, was hawking goods
on the street of Lagos before she pursued her passion in blogging.
On the choice of these
people for the commercial, Izu said,” We are not doing celebrity endorsement
but we want to people who can tell their stories to inspire others. We have
carefully selected these celebrities so that others can be inspired”.
Izu said their stories
were similar to the bank’s story in 2006 shortly after the birth of Skye Bank.
“In 2006, Skye Bank was number 23 in the industry. We had no brand identity
then. Time was when you say Skye Bank and people would say ‘what is that’? It
was an arduous task to build the brand. We knew it would be difficult to
convince our customers that we could help them grow their business, hence the
need to build our brand identity”, she said
She encouraged people with
humble beginnings not to be ashamed but to strive to be successful, saying ‘we
will be patient with you, stand by you because we are a product of small
beginning.
