Popular Fuji artiste King
Wasiu Ayinde Marshall and sensational pop-gospel singer, Lanre Teriba popularly
known as Atorise, treated the cream of Ibadan elite to
delightful music at a royal banquet sponsored by Globacom in honour of the new
Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji last weekend in Ibadan.
The royal banquet which was
organised in collaboration with the Olubadan Coronation Reception Committee
added colour, sublime music, dance and comedy to the coronation of Oba Adetunji
the previous day.
KWAM 1 is a long standing
associate of the Olubadan as he was signed to the traditional ruler’s record
label in the early 80s. His beats got sons and daughters of the city from all
walks of life shuffling their feet.
Earlier, while Lanre
Teriba was performing, Chief S.L. Lagunju, lawyer and Ibadan-born
90-year-old childhood friend of the new monarch could not resist the urge to
dance as he walked gingerly to the podium where he moved rhythmically to the
beats. This earned the admiration of the lively audience at the
event.
Mrs Banke Ajao, an indigene
of Ibadan who attended the banquet gave kudos to Globacom for its support for
the coronation and especially for the royal banquet which she described as a
breath of fresh air in the town.
Ahmed Apampa, another
Ibadan indigene expressed appreciation to Globacom and noted that the
company had displayed its commitment to the welfare of Nigerians by not
only making its products and services available, but also by providing an
atmosphere of glee and euphoria at such an epochal ceremony as the king’s
coronation.
Oba Adetunji is the 41st Olubadan
of Ibadanland and succeeded Oba Odulana Odugade who went to be with his
ancestors on January 19, this year.
