Malaika Fuji Band Thrilled fans at 2017 Lagos International Jazz Festival

Malaika Fuji music band led by Alhaji Sulaimon Alao Adekunle put up a stunning performance at the just concluded Lagos International Jazz Festival.

The crowd in the big marquee of Freedom Park, Lagos Island cheered in admiration as band members of the Fuji star gave a wonderful performance even before their leader Sulaimon Alao Adekunle mounted the stage.

Malaika’s two saxophonists displayed their dexterity on the instrument by performing most of Malaika’s hit songs to the admiration of the wide audience. Taye Wanner, who was gifted with sonorous voices stood in for the leader singing alongside the two saxophonists.

On his arrival, Alhaji Sulaimon Alao Adekunle dished out hit songs from his hit albums Proper Music, Super Star and the recently released Original.

It was a spectacular reaction as the crowd didn't want them to stop even after the allocated time of performance was up. The sonorous voice of the leader backed by the men as well as the electrifying dance steps of members of the band and their skills on the various instruments they play was the main attraction for the audience just like the band had done at various African cultural festivals and concerts both within and outside Nigeria.

As one of the most widely travelled and equally talented, culturally rooted Fuji groups on the Nigerian music scene, Sulaimon Alao Adekunle and the Malaika Fuji Band command wide followership among both the elite and the grassroots.

With a 27 man band made up of drummers (Sakara, Apala, Iya-ilu),  percussionists (Omele, Cord, Maracas, etc), saxophonists, guitarists, keyboardist, vocalists alongside other supporting staffs,  Malaika Fuji Band has shown over the years that they are a force to be reckoned with among the old Fuji groups exemplified by the late Sikiru Ayinde Barrister and the new school with compositions from the great culture of the Yoruba's as well as new, street lingo in pidgin, English and any other language that has continued to make them the darling of lovers of good music.

It would be recalled that Malaika Fuji Band were the cynosure of all eyes at the Global Excellence Awards 2017, Amin Concert 2017, Lere Easter Fiesta as well as the just concluded Lagos International Jazz Festival.
